For some users there is not sufficient challenge in controlling only one account at a time. Others look to recreate the feel of old school Computer RPGs where a well designed party was used to adventure collectively.

Game software - You will be required to buy the game, and depending on needs the expansion as well, for each character you want to play together.
At least one installation of the game software must be present on every machine.
A single install directory can be used to run collective instances of the game client. It is not fundamental to have multiple WoW directories on a PC to run multiple World of Warcraft Windows.
The secluded directory installation option saves HD space and make easy setup and maintenance of your UI and addons.
Some gamers prefer to maintain many copies of the game files on one machine. It is widely thought that multiple installs of the game client will improve performance, however this is only partly true. Multiple installations will improve performance only if each installation is on a different physical drive.
If the multi directory approach of installation is decided you will need to maintain addons and UI changes for each install separately.
System hardware - To run two or more copies on the same PC, it is recommended that it contain at least a dual core CPU, different 3d GPU, and at least 1 gigabyte of Random Access Memory (RAM). Additional copies on the same PC will require faster CPUs and more memory. When using separate PCs, try to keep all of them the same.
